Getting rid of those Real Housewives Duck lips!

We so often see photographs of celebrities that have duck lips. If you don’t know what I am referring to, just tune into an episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and take a look at most of the women.

duck lips comparison

You know the story – the lips protrude out like duck bills because too much filler is put into the lips. While Taylor wins the prize, Kyle is catching up to her. It does look terrible. So, what exactly is the problem and how can YOU avoid getting duck lips? One solution to this problem is a procedure called the Lip lift. This procedure raises the upper lip to it’s natural youthful state.

Are bigger lips more youthfull

Most people get fillers put into their lips because they want the lips to be more youthful and sexy looking. Generally, everybody thinks that ‘bigger lips = more youthful’. But in reality, that is not the case. Let’s think about this – Let’s assume you are 35 years old and you are thinking about what your lips looked like when you were 25 years old. So, did your lips shrink? What happened? What is really different?

Gravity happens!

While your lips have become thinner with age, something else has happened. Gravity has happened. Yes, the position of the upper lip has been affected by gravity. The result is that when your mouth is at a resting position, you can no longer see your front teeth because the top lip is now lower. This has the effect of making your overall facial appearance look harder and older.

So what is the answer? The Lip lift ! The lip lift is a procedure which will remove a very tiny amount of skin right at the base of the nose. It elevates the top lip, exposes a tiny bit more of the red pigment portion, and brings your lips back to that ‘oh so sexy and youthful’ look.

Shannon: Sorry for the delay in replying. This blog is a way to disseminate information, so I do not check it often for leads. I will get kelly@cosmeticsurg.net to contact you. We can set up a virtual consult through Skype or FaceTime if that is convenient for you. Thanks for checking out our blog!

I must sincerely apologize for the comment I made about Dr Rodriguez's office. This comment was never about Dr Rodriguez or his expertise as a surgeon. Quite the contrary since I was trying to contact his office to set up an appt about my problem. I followed his videos n felt like he was the only one who could possibly help me. Come to find out his very qualified staff tried to contact me many times but unfortunately my email server would not accept their emails! I am so very sorry to pass judgment on them and hope this had no reflection on Dr Rodriguez! I should have never been so hasty to post a review that could very potentially hurt his office staff or Dr Rodriguez! For this I am truly sorry and hope anyone who read my review will disregard! His office staff had been so amazing in trying to resolve this matter. I should have called the office directly before passing judgement! I have learned a valuable lesson from this and only hope Dr Rodriguez will want to help me. I certainly understand if he does not!

Thanks so much for the response! I'll be getting in touch with Kelly in a couple months to schedule a consultation.
  • JT says:

Dr. Rodriquez, my lips are shaped in such a way that I'm not a good candidate for a lip lift but my upper lip area (from base of nose down to lip surface) seems to have gotten a bit longer over the past few years and the surface area (inside the vermillion border) of my lips seem to be deflating. My upper lip line has lost quite a bit of definition and I'm starting to develop some vertical "smokers" wrinkles although I've never smoked. Can fat grafting help to clean up and "solidify" my upper lip line, and maybe restore some volume around the base of my nose without the appearance of duck lips?
    • Dr. Ricardo L Rodriguez says:

JT: Fat injections can be tried in the lip, but they are less reliable than in other areas, because of lip motion. As long as you are willing to accept that you may need another touch up you will be fine. Fat grafts are often used to restore volume around the base of the nose and I do that very frequently. From what you are describing about the upper lip having got longer and the vermillion deflating, it looks like you would indeed benefit from a lip lift.
